The Feature:
Three power modes allow the Insight to operate with the utmost efficiency.
Power-flow indicators in the Display Audio, keep the driver apprised of which mode is in use.
In EV Drive, the Insight is propelled solely by its electric motor and the lithium-ion battery pack.
This mode can be selected—and used for short distances—by pressing the EV button.
When the battery runs low, the Insight automatically switches to Hybrid Drive and the engine starts to power the generator, which in turn supplies the drive motor with electricity.
In Engine Drive, a clutch engages to mechanically link the engine to the front drive wheels at highway speeds.
