Engine/Chassis Features

Turbocharged 1.5-liter Engine

What’s the Benefit?

This engine delivers exhilarating acceleration while operating with excellent efficiency.

The Feature:

As the world’s largest manufacturer of engines, Honda drew on many resources to create this exceptional powerplant.

  • In addition to the intercooled turbo, this powerplant features VTEC, direct injection, Variable Timing Control (VTC) on both camshafts and a dual-exhaust system.
  • Thanks to careful tuning and use of a relatively small-diameter turbine wheel, the Honda version of the forced-induction engine exhibits negligible turbo lag—a phenomenon that bedevils many of its turbocharged competitors—so response to the throttle is quick.
  • Also contributing to greater responsiveness is a lightweight single-mass flywheel.
  • Driving enthusiasts will appreciate impressive power output: 200 horsepower @ 6000 rpm (SAE net).
  • Torque production is exciting as well, at 192 lb-ft @ 1800-5000 rpm (SAE net).
  • Plus, that torque peak starts at a low 1,800 rpm and stays strong as the revs rise to 5,000 rpm, for a sustained blast of acceleration.
  • Perhaps most remarkable of all, this engine can provide all that exhilaration while receiving excellent EPA fuel-economy ratings.36
