What's New

The Civic Type R is entirely new for the 2023 model year:

  • The exterior design has gone more aerodynamically efficient as well as stylistically sophisticated, enhancing both high-velocity performance and onlooker envy.
  • Its 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine gets a power boost to 315 hp (SAE net) and 310 lb-ft of torque, thanks to a more efficient turbocharger and improved flow rates in both the intake and exhaust systems.
  • The rev-match control feature of the 6-speed manual transmission works even better, due in part to a significantly lighter single-mass flywheel for quicker revving.
  • Greater rigidity in both the body structure and suspension components sharpens Type R cornering.
  • A new, high-rigidity 19-in alloy wheel design and super-wide 265/30 ZR19 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires make for a massive, grippy contact patch with the pavement.
  • The previous 3-mode drive system adds Individual Mode, allowing drivers to create a tailored set of characteristics chosen from Comfort, Sport and +R modes across six customizable areas—for a grand total of 486 possible configurations.
  • The Honda LogR® datalogging app has been embedded in the vehicle and can supply the driver with vastly expanded amounts of real-time information regarding track performance, driving quality and vehicle status through both the 9-inch color touch-screen and the 10.2-inch DII.
  • Drivers who like to blend the entrancing melody of the Type R exhaust note with their favorite audio sources will enjoy the Bose21 premium sound system with 12 speakers, including subwoofer.
  • Leading-edge connectivity features keeping occupants conveniently in touch include wireless Apple CarPlay®16 and Android Auto™17 compatibility, as well as a wireless phone charger52.
  • Safety and driver-assistive upgrades include a suite of 10 airbags, the blind spot information system (BSI)14 with cross traffic monitor42, rear seat reminder (RSR)67, traffic sign recognition system (TSR)12 and more—so Civic Type R drivers can go forth with great confidence.
  • And Civic Type R features gaining Honda Sensing® status for 2023 are the auto high-beam headlights, driver attention monitor, low-speed braking control and blind spot information system (BSI)14 with cross traffic monitor42.

  • And like buyers of all 2023 Honda models, Civic Type R purchasers can take advantage of the new Honda Service Pass71. Coverage applies for the first two years or 24,000 miles (whichever comes first) from date of sale. Using only Honda Genuine Parts and covering certain factory-scheduled maintenance, it includes:
    • Standard oil and oil filter changes
    • Tire rotations
    • Multi-point inspections
Owners receive a handy Maintenance Minder™ alert in their vehicle when it’s time to schedule service, which they can do through the HondaLink® smartphone app.22
